Gopal Chandra Panda was my father and my first guru. Growing up under his guidance meant growing up within a world where music was not separated from life. From an early age, I observed how discipline, silence, and dedication shaped both his art and his way of being.
As a guru, he taught through the classical Guru–Shishya Parampara, where learning unfolded slowly through repetition, reflection, and lived experience. He believed deeply in the integrity of tradition and insisted on approaching music with honesty, patience, and respect for its grammar. His teaching emphasized depth over display and understanding over imitation.
As a father, he instilled in me a sense of responsibility toward music—not as a personal achievement, but as a cultural inheritance. His presence continues to guide my musical journey, reminding me that classical music must be preserved, practiced, and passed on with sincerity, humility, and devotion.
